eDiets Week 3 Day 2 - Will My Diet Plan Be Barbequed By Temptation?
I made it through the weekend pretty well with my girlfriend out of town and my meal choices totally up to me. My exercise routine was more of an activity routine as I did some yard work and some chores. The big test of the weekend was going to a friends barbeque and moderating my eating. Since this is what normally ruins most diet plans, I will share with you my approach to enjoying myself, but not ruining two weeks of hard work. Click here to read more..... First, I ate light throughout the day by going with a Slim Fast for Breakfast, a light snack for lunch, and plenty of water. I had a light snack just before I went to the party so I would not be totally starved when I arrived. Next, I offered to bring macaroni salad, potato salad, and soda so that I would not have to make anything and would not be tempted to eat fatty high calorie food while I was in the cooking process. Also, this saved me some time as I don't like to cook very much. On the drive to the party, I drank a bottle of water so that I would not mistake dehydration for hunger and over-eat.
Also, I came after the barbeque was up and running partly because I got busy, partly because it's never cool to be the first one to arrive, and partly (and most importantly) because I wouldn't be waiting around for food when I did arrive. This let me moderate how my hunger and keep my energy level up, although I was quite hungry by the time I arrived.
When I made it to the party, I did allow myself to have some macaroni salad and potato salad with my burger (no buns), hotdog, and veggies. The party lasted about 5 hours and I managed to get by with only 2 small cookies as a 'treat' and drinking plenty of water throughout the night. I sacrificed big-time by not drinking with my buds because beer is what I call the "anti-workout." So, in the end, my calories were not over-board and I had some treats (cookies, macaroni and potato salad, ect.). I didn't have to worry about feeling tired from a night of drinking and while I may not have moved forward on my weight loss goals that day, I did not move backwards!
